It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.   Robert H. Goddard
Futura 27 An image in artist Ben Mauro’s online portfolio of a retro-style flying car provided the initial spark for the Futura 27, as the thought of modeling a similar-type vehicle struck me as quite appealing. This ‘mash-up’ (a term I think describes this type of project perhaps better than kitbashing does) began with the Monogram Lincoln Futura as the foundation for this model, with engine pods from the Pegasus Models Apollo 27 kit and drop tanks from a Harrier jet.  Additional vacuformed components, some lathe turnings and a fair amount of polyester filler to generally blend all the components together and the result was definitely a welcome break from the more ’serious’ models I normally build.  In fact, someone commented upon seeing the finished model that it would not look out of place zooming around in the background of Matt Groening’s animated series Futurama, which I thought completely appropriate especially considering its origins. An article documenting this project can be found in Sci-Fi and Fantasy Modeller Volume 17. Silver Award Wonderfest 2011
