It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.   Robert H. Goddard
The E.S.S. Pioneer was my attempt to update Buck Rogers’ ship from the Sunday comic strip first seen in 1940.  The original Pioneer shares many of the features standardized in the ships prevalent in the era of the late 30’s and early 40’s.  It shouldn’t be too difficult to discern which elements of modern movie spaceships I drew upon to create my E.S.S. Pioneer.  I was also influenced a bit by the work of John Berkey in arriving at a final design. Built around a length of two-inch diameter ABS tubing, basic construction of the model was in one-sixteenth inch thick acrylic sheet.  A good deal of panel scribing, additional layers of machined acrylic and styrene, as well as the usual kit parts provided the details.
