It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.   Robert H. Goddard
Colony Ship Arcadia
The original 'serious' concept- - Employing a 'live-off-the-land' approach to space travel, the Colony Ship Arcadia utilizes small asteroids or cometary nuclei to derive fuel and water for its centuries-long journey to nearby star systems. Once captured, massive clamps at the rear of the craft hold the asteroid (or comet) firmly in its grasp whereupon a network of heaters, pumps and piping would extract water from its interior, which would then be broken down onboard for use as fuel. The Colony Ship Arcadia is an original design that I decided to produce as a resin kit. Although it was initially inspired by current asteroid mining concepts, it was difficult to ignore the obvious humor inherent in the design, and so the build-up seen here has been appropriately titled 'Deuce-Zero-One.' I came up with that one after watching the classic 'Urinal Deuce' episode of South Park and it just seemed to fit... The model features fiber optic lighting and is about 13-inches long. Inspiration for the color scheme came from Hardware- -The Definitive SF Works of Chris Foss, a highly recommended addition to every sci-fi modeler's reference library.
